History of IDF

The Indonesian Dance Festival (IDF) was established in 1992, initiated by a group of Indonesian dance artists: Dr. Sal Murgiyanto, Nungki Kusumastuti, S.Sn., M.Sos, Melina Surja Dewi S.Pd,M.Si, Maria Darmaningsih S.Sn,M.Ed., Dedy Lutan S.Sn., Tom Ibnur S.Sn., supported by Prof. Sardono W. Kusumo, Julianti S.Pd., Farida Oetoyo, etc. Since its establishment, IDF has conducted dance art festivals which have been attended by many choreographers from various levels, national as well as international, such as Miroto, Mugiyono Kasido, Eko Supriyanto, Boi G. Sakti, Ku Ming-Shen (Taiwan), Min Tanaka (Japan), Takiko Iwabuchi (Japan), Gerard Mosterd (Dutch), Cezerine Barry (Australia), Janis Brenner (USA), Jerome Bel Perancis), Pichet Klunchun (Thailand), etc.

The IDF has become an organization that consistently attempts to maintain the dynamics of dance art.

AIMS OF IDF as a:
  • meeting of Indonesian and foreign choreographers and dancers with different artistic orientations and cultural backgrounds.
  • forum for dialog and collaboration between Indonesian and foreign choreographers.
  • workshop which includes training, creating new ideas and exchanging awareness.
  • forum of supporting artists activities in order to encourage cultural collaboration especially with choreographers from Asia.
  • forum of innovative creativity.
  • forum to increase the public’s appreciation.
